S100 Touchscreen US Fails to Reconnect

I’m testing out an S100 Touchscreen US to use as a whole home solution but it consistently fails to reconnect to the network after a power outage of any length of time. Not acceptable for a $100 device and it’s the only WiFi device in my whole house with this issue. What doesn’t make sense is, the only way I found to reconnect it is to remove it from power. I tried a static IP and that doesn’t work either. It’s not feasible to have to do this with 50+ switches every time the power goes out. It’s due for a firmware update. Still doesn’t display time and date like the ad photos have shown. Can someone from Aqara please advise?

Same thing. Whenever there’s a power interruption or WiFi network reboots, I have to restart the S100 to make it connect again. Pretty annoying.

Hello, you have assigned a static IP to the device?

Yes, I have, as mentioned in my OP.

Did you tried just use the 2,4 GHz and turn off 5ghz while binding?

Last time it happened, which was a few hours ago, it was connected to 2.4 and then reconnected to 2.4 but if this has to be connected to 2.4, then I have no interest in this device. 5 is way faster and more reliable in my experience and one of the reasons I purchased in the first place. Otherwise, I’m staying away from Wifi devices.

Unfortunately I don’t have this device to test - but I’m also not so happy with WiFi devices…
But mostly user experience is better with 2.4 ghz with Aqara products…
When you add it to WiFi - how good is signal strength?
And walls between the device and router?

It’s perfectly fine when connected to the network and it stays connected just fine. I have no issues with that at all. The problem is when there’s a power outage. The device won’t automatically reconnect to the network after a power outage and I have to remove it from the wall, disconnect the power wire and then reconnect the power wire. This makes no sense since this is essentially a power outage lol. Huge pain in the butt.

Absolutely agree with you

Maybe @Cifer_Aqara can help there

I’ve noticed similar issues. For me, I’ve paired the screen with different lights and those become unpaired. Definitely some kinks to work out.

For sure. This switch has been out for a few months already and I would’ve figured there would’ve been some kind of update by now to work out some of the kinks. It’s not a cheap switch. I want to sprinkle these around my house but not in its current state.

On a side note, I did notice that you can add an analog or digital clock as the screen saver. Not sure when they snuck that one in lol.

Oh, nice. I’ll need to check that out and dig back into the settings.

Hello, are you TESTING a test sample, or a purchased one from the S100 store? I want to understand at what stage the problem you described is (test or working).

Main “configure” page under “screensaver” is where you’ll find them.

This was bought on Amazon, for public consumption.

By testing, I mean to see if it will work in my home application for my personal use.

I had this issue with of disconnection with two types of devices: One that uses thread (matter) protocol and two that are directly connected to wifi. Each time they got deliberately (or through electricity disruption) got disconnected from th e network it was difficult to bring them back to the network - even when reset them to default/ factory conditions. Two things helped though:

  1. This helped but was a difficult thing to do: Change the protocol frequency in the app (there are some 10 /12 frequencies thread device uses - i randomly changed them once, it worked. The next time it happened i had to try many frequencies - God knows how it worked but it did after so many tries).
  2. Finally what worked for me (and ever since i don’t have a problem): It turned out (with the help of Gemini) that the router issued by my ISP had a limited (/inefficient) routing table. This is very problematic if you have a wifi IoT device because they do not remain connected all times - they connect / disconnect by design and they do it very frequently and probably many a times a minute. Each time they connect they add a new entry to the routing table. As the router is not designed for this IoT behaviour, its’ routing table is not efficiently cleared and thus the problems with IoT devices. So what’s the SOLUTION? buy a new home router with IoT support . I bought TP-Link Archer AX-55 and ever since I don’t have a problem. Only once a matter device had got disconnected after the reboot of the Aqara M3 but in a few minutes it got connected automatically. I don’t have a problem with any device for quite some time now.

I don’t shre this info as ‘the’ solution to your issues, but it helps to just know things/ other people’s experiences

Hope you’ve got the solution already or get soon.

Ciao

Hello, welcome to the forum.
Thank you for the information provided, 100% it will be useful to someone.

Thanks for the reply. I have a solid Ubiquiti Unifi network. This is the only WiFi device that did not reconnect to the network. Support reached out to me and came up with a solution that seems to be working so far after a power outage last night.

Just a heads up to anyone that comes across this post…

Aqara reached out to me and provided a solution that so far seems to be working after one power outage but I will keep monitoring the issue.

From Aqara Support:

Please try deleting all the linked cards configured for the S100 in the Aqara app, save the changes, and then re-add your configured cards
