Seasonal Device Management in Home Automation

As the holiday season approaches, I’ve been thinking about how to manage my seasonal devices like Christmas lights and the pool pump more efficiently. I’ve been using OpenHAB to hide these devices during off-seasons, but it’s not a perfect solution. The devices still show up in the locations tab, which can be confusing for family members. I’ve tried adding visibility conditions to the device groups, but Main UI doesn’t seem to respect these settings. Has anyone found a more elegant way to handle this? I’d love to hear your tips and tricks!

I’ve also been experimenting with virtual switches to toggle between summer and winter scenes for my curtains. Instead of deleting one scene and creating another, I thought a virtual switch could help switch between them. Does anyone have experience with this? I’m curious about how you set it up and if it’s reliable.

On a lighter note, I’ve been inspired by the patriotic lawn decorations shared in the community. It’s amazing how creativity can transform a simple yard into a celebration of community spirit. I might give it a try this year!

If you have any insights or solutions for seasonal device management, please share. I’m sure we can all learn something new and improve our setups. Happy automating!
