Hey everyone, I wanted to share a success story about securing my Wyze vacuum cleaner on my guest network. I’ve been trying to figure out how to isolate my IoT devices from my main home network, and after some trial and error, I finally got it working!
Initially, I thought setting up the vacuum on the guest network would be straightforward, but I ran into some issues. The main problem was that my phone couldn’t connect to the vacuum during the initial setup because they couldn’t see each other on the guest network. After some research, I found an option on my router that allowed guest devices to temporarily communicate with each other. This was the key to getting everything set up!
Here’s what I did:
- Enabled the option on my router to allow guest devices to see each other (this required a restart).
- Connected my phone to the guest network and successfully set up the vacuum.
- Disabled the option again to isolate the devices once the setup was complete.
Now, the vacuum is securely on the guest network, and I can still control it from anywhere using the Wyze app. It’s a great feeling to know that my main network is more secure without sacrificing functionality!
If anyone has questions or suggestions about this setup, I’d love to hear them. Happy smart home tinkering! ![]()
