Seeking Advice for PWM Fan Control Integration with OpenHAB

I recently decided to upgrade my home’s cooling system by integrating smart fan control. I have a PC installed in a cabinet, which currently uses a basic fan control board from AliExpress. While it works for basic temperature-based adjustments, I want to take it to the next level by integrating it with OpenHAB for more precise and remote control.

Here’s my setup: I have 12 Nocturne fans connected via PWM, and I’d like to control them all through OpenHAB. The goal is to regulate fan speeds based on temperature and occupancy, even when I’m not at home. I’ve explored some solutions online, but they all seem overly complex, requiring extensive soldering or custom programming. I’m hoping there’s a simpler way to achieve this without reinventing the wheel.

I stumbled upon the idea of using an ESP or Raspberry Pi to bridge the gap between OpenHAB and the fans. However, I’m not sure how to set this up without deep technical expertise. I’ve also heard about XAP mode in some fan control software, but I couldn’t find any clear documentation on how to use it with OpenHAB.

If anyone has experience with PWM fan control via OpenHAB, especially using MQTT or a similar protocol, I’d greatly appreciate any advice or resources. I’m particularly interested in finding a tool or method that allows remote control of these fans through OpenHAB without getting too deep into the weeds with hardware modifications.

Any suggestions or success stories would be incredibly helpful! Let’s see if we can crack this together.
