Seeking Hardware Recommendations for Home Assistant with Proxmox

Hi everyone, I’m Lothar, a 50-year-old from Wassenberg, Germany, and I’m new to the world of Home Assistant and Proxmox. I’ve been watching some videos by Simon42 and I’m really excited to dive into this project. My goal is to create a smart home system that integrates various devices and is future-proof, so I’m here to seek your advice on hardware choices.

Currently, I have a Beelink Mini PC AP34 PRO running Home Assistant, which seems to handle the basics okay. However, I’m looking to expand my setup to include more devices like Shelly switches, cameras, and maybe even a heating control system in the future. I’ve come across some hardware recommendations, but I’m not sure if it’s all necessary or if it’s overkill.

I’m considering an ASUS NUC 15 Pro for better performance, a WD Red SN700 1TB NVMe SSD for storage, and 32GB of Crucial DDR5 RAM. I also plan to use a SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle for connectivity. My main concern is whether this setup is too much for my needs or if it’s a solid foundation for future expansions.

I’m also wondering if my current Mini PC is sufficient for experimenting with Home Assistant before moving to a more powerful setup. Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you all in advance for your help. I’m really looking forward to building this system and exploring all the possibilities Home Assistant has to offer!
