Hi everyone! I’m really excited to dive into setting up my new smart alarm system using OpenHAB. I’ve been using OH3 for a while now and love how customizable it is, but moving to a new house has me thinking about how to integrate everything seamlessly.
I’ve been researching different alarm systems and came across the Ring Alarm and Abus Smartvest options. Both seem promising, but I’m a bit torn. The Ring Alarm is Z-Wave based, which is great because I already have a bunch of Z-Wave devices. But I’m wondering if integrating it with OpenHAB will be straightforward or if I’ll need to set up MQTT bindings manually. On the other hand, the Abus Smartvest works with Z-Wave too, but I’m not sure how well it integrates with OpenHAB compared to the Ring system.
Another thing I’m curious about is how to handle multiple Z-Wave networks. If I go with the Ring Alarm as my main hub, will my existing Z-Wave devices still work without any issues? I’ve heard that having separate networks can cause range problems, but I’m not entirely sure how significant that is in a typical home setup.
I’ve also been experimenting with creating my own alarm logic in OpenHAB. It’s a bit challenging, but it’s rewarding to see everything come together. I’m thinking about how to make the system as flexible as possible, maybe even having it send notifications to my phone or trigger specific scenes when an alarm is triggered.
If anyone has experience with either the Ring Alarm or Abus Smartvest, I’d love to hear about your setup and how you integrated it with OpenHAB. Any tips or pitfalls to avoid would be incredibly helpful!
Looking forward to hearing from you all and hopefully getting some great ideas to make my new alarm system the best it can be. Thanks in advance for your insights!
