Setting Up Outdoor Lighting Zones with Smart Switches

Hi everyone, I’m thrilled to share my recent project where I set up three separate zones for low-voltage outdoor lighting in my front yard, backyard, and driveway. The goal was to control each zone independently using smart switches, and I wanted to ensure the installation was both clean and weatherproof.

I started by researching the technical aspects and decided on using three separate transformers and GE Z-Wave smart switches. However, the practical installation was a bit tricky. I only had a two-outlet outdoor GFI outlet, so I needed a splitter for the three transformers. I also considered how to securely mount all the components on the side of my house.

One solution I explored was using a waterproof container to house the transformers, wiring plugs, and smart switches. This not only protected the components from the weather but also kept everything organized. I was initially concerned about whether the smart home hub would detect the switches inside the container, but it worked seamlessly!

I’d love to hear if anyone has alternative methods or tips for similar setups. Have you tried using a different type of enclosure or encountered any unique challenges with outdoor smart lighting? Sharing experiences always helps us learn and improve our projects!
