Setting Up Smart Devices Without Internet: LAN Mode Tips

Moving to a new house can be both exciting and challenging, especially when it comes to setting up your smart home devices. I recently found myself in a situation where I wanted to install a couple of dual-band switches to control my electric covers during the renovation phase. However, the lack of internet connectivity posed a significant hurdle.

The app I was using kept throwing an error saying there was no internet connection, even though my Wi-Fi router was up and running. I tried both automatic and Bluetooth pairing, but the moment I attempted to add the devices, the error popped up again. Frustrated, I decided to explore the compatibility pairing mode. This allowed me to connect the devices to my router, but I faced another issue when trying to set the working mode— the app indicated the devices were offline.

After several attempts and troubleshooting steps, including using my phone as a hotspot and switching off my router, I discovered that the devices could be added to the app using the compatibility mode, but they wouldn’t connect to my phone’s hotspot. However, once my router was back on, the devices appeared online in the app. Despite this, changing the working mode still resulted in the devices being marked as offline.

One workaround I found was to use the app’s compatibility mode to complete the setup. While this didn’t solve the working mode issue entirely, it allowed me to at least have the devices registered in the app. I also realized that turning off and restarting the router occasionally helped stabilize the connection.

If you’re in a similar situation, my advice is to try the compatibility mode for setup and ensure your router is functioning optimally. It might take some trial and error, but persistence pays off! :rocket:
