How do you add residents in Apple Home? I only get the option to add Guests.
I have successfully set up my U100 to open with my Apple Home Key. Now I want my family to be able to do the same. I have read dozens of articles on how to do this, but they say the same thing: add a resident. The only problem is that Resident is not an option. It just adds Guests.
I finally saw that I needed a hub. I have an Aqara M3 and I have added it to Home. Still Guest-only.
@Atari To share your Apple Home Key for the U100 smart door lock with family members, you can invite other Apple users to join your HomeKit family. According to the U100 FAQ, after inviting them via the HomeKit app, the door card will be automatically generated in their Wallet.
Since you’ve already set up the Aqara M3 hub (which supports HomeKit control), the key step is to use the HomeKit app’s family sharing feature. Even if the option shows “Guests,” this might be the intended way to add family members for Home Key access—try sending the invite through HomeKit and check if the recipient’s Wallet automatically receives the door card.
If the issue persists, feel free to share more details about your HomeKit setup, and we can troubleshoot further
Hi! In your case, you’ll need an Apple Home hub (such as a HomePod mini or an Apple TV). The old HomeKit protocol is an Apple-only system, so even if you have an Aqara hub, it can’t be used to create or manage family members in Apple Home.
If you don’t plan to purchase an Apple Home hub, you can still use the Aqara Home app to set up fingerprints and passcodes for your family members as an alternative.
I had also an Apple TV as a Apple Home Hub before, so I think you have not update Apple Home yet to the its last architecture, when you do that Apple TV will no longer can be used as a Home Hub…
