Shelly Dimmer2 and Shelly 2PM Installation Experience

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience installing the Shelly Dimmer2 and Shelly 2PM in my home. I’ve been exploring the world of smart home automation, and these devices have been a great addition to my setup. Let me walk you through my journey and some tips I’ve picked up along the way!

First, I decided to upgrade my window treatments by installing new electric roller blinds. I came across the Somfy Ilmo WT motor, which seemed like a solid choice. I wanted to integrate this with my existing smart home ecosystem, so I decided to pair it with the Shelly 2PM. The idea was to have a simple toggle switch in the wall that would control the blinds, with the Shelly handling the automation behind the scenes.

Setting up the Shelly 2PM was straightforward. I placed it in the switch box and connected it to the Somfy motor. The integration with my home network was seamless, and the device was recognized almost instantly. I configured it through the Shelly app, setting up the necessary actions for opening and closing the blinds. It’s been working reliably ever since!

Next, I wanted to replace my traditional LED lights with a more energy-efficient setup. I decided to go with 230V LED bulbs without a transformer, which I’ve heard are more efficient and have better color accuracy. I paired these with the Shelly Dimmer2, hoping to achieve smooth dimming control. The installation was a breeze—just a matter of swapping out the old bulbs and connecting the dimmer.

One thing I was concerned about was the reliability of the Shelly devices, especially in case of a Wi-Fi outage. I read that the Shelly devices can be configured to work without Wi-Fi using MQTT or direct integration. I decided to go with direct integration, which seems to be the more straightforward option. This way, even if my Wi-Fi goes down, I can still manually control the lights using the physical switch.

I’ve been using these devices for a few weeks now, and I’m really impressed with their performance. The dimmer provides smooth, consistent control, and the Shelly 2PM has made operating my roller blinds a breeze. The app integration is user-friendly, and I appreciate the ability to set up custom scenes and automations.

For anyone considering these devices, I’d recommend starting with direct integration if you want a simple setup. If you’re comfortable with MQTT, that’s a great way to add more advanced functionality. Also, make sure to test the devices in different scenarios, like during a Wi-Fi outage, to ensure they meet your needs.

Overall, I’m really happy with my purchase. These devices have elevated my smart home experience, and I look forward to integrating more Shelly products in the future. If you have any questions or tips, feel free to share—I’d love to hear from others who’ve had similar experiences!

Cheers,
