Hello everyone, I wanted to share my experience setting up a smart alarm system using my SmartThings hub. It’s been quite a journey, but I’m thrilled with the results!
Initially, I faced some challenges with the alarm delay functionality. I wanted a consistent 90-second warning beep to notify family members when the alarm was about to trigger. After some research, I discovered that the Konnected system through the SmartThings hub could be a great solution. However, getting the piezo buzzer to beep continuously wasn’t straightforward. I tried various settings and even considered using a color-changing light bulb as an alternative visual cue. Thankfully, the community provided some helpful insights, and I managed to tweak the settings to achieve the desired functionality.
Another aspect I focused on was integrating motion sensors and door sensors for comprehensive coverage. I experimented with different placements and learned the importance of having clear visual cues, like the small icon indicating sleep mode on the Kindle Fire’s ActionTiles. It’s amazing how these small adjustments can make a big difference in user experience.
For those looking to enhance their alarm system, I recommend exploring the SmartThings app’s automation rules and considering additional hardware like the Fibaro FGS-222 Dual Relay Switch for outdoor lighting control. The ability to trigger lights via the app or IFTTT has added an extra layer of security and convenience.
Overall, this project has been incredibly rewarding. It taught me the value of persistence and the wealth of knowledge available in our community. If you’re thinking about setting up a smart alarm system, I highly encourage you to dive in—you won’t regret it!
Happy automating!
