Smart attic fan setup and automation tips

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share my recent experience setting up a smart attic fan. I’ve been wanting to improve my attic ventilation for a while and decided to take the plunge this weekend. I went with the Master Flow 1500 CFM attic fan, which seemed like a solid choice based on reviews.

I’ve been trying to integrate all my new devices with SmartThings, so I knew I’d need to get creative with this one. The fan comes with a thermostat, but I’ve heard they can be unreliable, so I decided to go with an Aeotec Multisensor 6 instead. It’s USB-powered, which is a big plus since I don’t want to deal with batteries in the attic.

For the automation part, I wanted the fan to kick in when the temperature reaches 100°F. I picked up a Leviton Z-Wave smart outlet to plug the fan into. The plan is to set up an automation where the temperature sensor triggers the outlet, which in turn powers the fan. I also like that the outlet has a second plug for the sensor, so everything stays organized.

I’ve got the basic setup working, but I’m curious if anyone has tips for fine-tuning this kind of automation. I’m thinking about adding some delays or maybe even integrating it with my HVAC system. It’s been great to see how all these devices can work together to solve a simple problem like attic ventilation.

If anyone has experience with attic fan automation or tips for optimizing energy efficiency, I’d love to hear about it! It’s been a fun project and I’m excited to see how it performs during the warmer months ahead.
