Hey everyone, I’m excited to share my recent bathroom renovation project and how I integrated smart lighting to create a functional and modern space. ![]()

I’ve been using Hue Xento spotlights for a while now, and they’ve been a game-changer for me. However, when I moved them to my bathroom, I noticed the beam angle was narrower than I expected. At first, I thought I might need to install more spots, but after some research and testing, I realized fewer lights would suffice with the right placement. My bathroom is L-shaped, about 15-16 square meters, and I ended up using 6 spotlights instead of the initial 8 I planned. The key was to position them strategically around the mirrors and corners to ensure even lighting without any dark spots.
To take it a step further, I integrated IFTTT and Google Home to automate the lighting. Now, when I walk into the bathroom in the morning, the lights automatically turn on to 50% brightness. If it’s still dark outside, they adjust to full brightness after a minute. I’ve also set up voice commands like “Hey Google, good morning” to trigger the lights and my coffee maker simultaneously—pure bliss! ![]()
For those looking to automate their bathroom lighting, here are a few tips:
- Start with a minimal number of lights and test their placement.
- Use smart bulbs with adjustable brightness and color temperature.
- Experiment with motion sensors and voice controls for hands-free convenience.
I’m curious to hear how others have approached bathroom lighting and automation. Any favorite setups or tips you’d like to share? Let’s keep the conversation flowing! ![]()
