Hello everyone, I’m diving head-first into my first smart home project—a complete bathroom remodel. I’m super excited to share my journey and get your thoughts on the setup I’m planning.
My goal is to automate the exhaust fan to make my mornings a breeze. I’ve seen some great YouTube videos using a DHT22 sensor and Wemos D1 mini, paired with a Shelly 1 as the relay. The idea is to have the fan turn on automatically when humidity reaches a certain level or when motion is detected.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
- Hardware Setup: I’ll use a DHT22 sensor to monitor humidity and a PIR motion sensor to detect when someone enters the bathroom. The Wemos D1 mini will handle the logic, and the Shelly 1 will control the fan.
- Automation Rules: When humidity exceeds 60% or motion is detected, the fan should switch on and run for 15 minutes. I also want to add a manual override switch for those times when I just want a quick burst of fresh air.
I’m curious if anyone has experience with this setup or if there are better alternatives. I’ve heard that integrating this with a smart hub like Home Assistant could add even more functionality, like voice control or scheduling.
Another thought: maybe adding a display to show real-time humidity levels would be a nice touch. I’m not sure if that’s feasible with the current setup, though.
I’d love to hear your suggestions on hardware, software, and any potential pitfalls I should watch out for. Let’s make this bathroom remodel as smart as possible! ![]()
