Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent project of adding smart LED lighting to my closets. It’s been a journey, but the results are absolutely amazing! Here’s how it all came together. The Challenge: I’ve always struggled with lighting in my closets. The overhead hallway light was too dim, and once I stepped inside, it was almost pitch black. I knew I needed a solution that was both practical and energy-efficient. The Solution: I decided to go with the Onforu 33ft LED Strip Light, 5000K Daylight. It was perfect for my needs—bright, adjustable, and easy to install. I used a 12V power plug for each closet and connected them to smart outlets for control. Installation Process: For the first-floor closet, I used a door contact sensor to trigger the lights. When the door opens, the lights turn on, and they stay on until the door closes. Simple and effective! In the basement closet, I opted for a motion sensor. This way, whether I open one door or both, the lights come on automatically. I set it to stay on for one minute, giving me just enough time to find what I need. The Rules: Setting up the automation was straightforward. For the door sensor, it was as simple as ‘Open = On, Close = Off.’ For the motion sensor, I programmed it to turn on the lights and keep them on for a minute before turning off. Hubitat made this process a breeze. The Results: The transformation is night and day! The LED strips provide bright, consistent lighting, and the motion sensor ensures I never fumble in the dark. Plus, the energy efficiency is a huge plus. Lessons Learned: - Motion Sensors Are Magic: They’ve completely changed how I interact with my closets. - Automation Saves Energy: By setting timers, I ensure lights aren’t left on unnecessarily. - LED Strips Are Versatile: They fit perfectly in tight spaces and offer great brightness. Final Thoughts: This project was a fantastic way to enhance my home’s functionality without breaking the bank. It’s all about finding the right tools and setting them up correctly. If you’re considering similar upgrades, I highly recommend starting small and building from there. Happy smartening everyone!
