Smart Door Lock Lights Control: My Experience and Solution

Hey everyone, I’ve been exploring ways to integrate my smart door lock with my home lighting system, and I thought I’d share my journey and solution with you. :rocket:

I recently purchased a QuickSet door lock, and one of the features I was most excited about was the possibility of automating my home’s lights when locking the door. The idea was simple: press the lock button once to lock the door, and press it again to turn off all the lights. Sounds straightforward, right? Well, it wasn’t as easy as I hoped at first. :bulb:

I started by trying to set up a custom automation using the lock’s built-in features. After some research, I discovered that creating an expired code and triggering an event based on that code was a potential workaround. However, this method was unreliable, working only about 25% of the time. :stop_sign:

Frustrated but determined, I decided to dig deeper into the possibilities. I explored integrating the door lock with my existing smart home ecosystem, which includes a variety of smart lighting devices. After some trial and error, I found that using a combination of the lock’s API and my home automation system was the key to achieving the desired functionality. :dart:

Here’s what I did:

  1. I set up a scene in my automation app that turns off all lights when triggered.
  2. I configured the door lock to send a signal to my automation system when the lock button is pressed a second time.
  3. I tested the setup extensively to ensure reliability. :hammer_and_wrench:

The result? Success! Now, pressing the lock button twice not only locks the door but also turns off all the lights throughout my home. It’s a small but incredibly convenient automation that enhances my daily routine. :star2:

I’d love to hear how others have integrated their smart door locks with their lighting systems. Have you tried something similar? Any tips or tricks you’d like to share? Drop them below—I’m all ears! :ear:
