Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my recent project where I built a smart garage door opener using an ESP8266 NodeMCU. It’s been working fantastic! My goal was to create something simple yet effective, and I ended up adapting code from a smart blinds project. I connected a 5V relay to the NodeMCU, which triggers the garage door button when activated. This setup allows me to close the door remotely if I accidentally leave it open, which is super handy. I also have a tilt sensor that alerts me if the door stays open too long, but now I can actually do something about it without driving back home. If anyone is interested, I’d be happy to share the cleaned-up code later!
On another note, I’ve noticed some users facing issues with their C8 devices locking up every few days. I can relate to the frustration when rules stop working after a hub reset. Has anyone found a reliable solution for this? Also, I came across a question about adding Moes zigbee dimmer modules to Smartthings. If anyone has successfully done this, I’d love to hear their method!
Lastly, I wanted to mention the importance of proper device placement. I recently received a Govee neon rope light, and while it’s meant for desks, I found a better use for it in my living room. It adds a nice ambiance without being too overpowering. Sometimes, a little creativity goes a long way!
Let me know if you have any tips or tricks for these projects. Happy tinkering! ![]()
