Smart Garden Lighting Automation Success Story

This summer, I embarked on a project to automate my garden lighting, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! :cherry_blossom: I wanted to create a seamless system that would not only save energy but also enhance my outdoor space with beautiful lighting. Here’s how I did it!

The Goal:
I aimed to create a system that would automatically turn on my garden lights at sunset, adjust their brightness based on ambient light, and turn off at a specific time in the morning. I also wanted the ability to override the system manually if needed.

The Setup:
I used a combination of sensors and smart lights to achieve this. Here’s what I installed:

  • Motion Sensors: To detect movement and adjust lighting intensity.
  • Smart Lights: I chose LED strip lights with dimming capabilities for a warm, ambient glow.
  • Smart Switches: To control the lights remotely.

The Automation:
Using Node-RED, I created a simple yet effective automation. The system checks the sunset and sunrise times daily and adjusts the lighting schedule accordingly. If motion is detected at night, the lights brighten slightly for safety without being too intrusive.

The Results:
This system has been a game-changer for me! My garden now looks stunning in the evenings, and I love how energy-efficient it is. Plus, the ability to control everything from my phone is a huge convenience.

Tips for Others:

  1. Plan Ahead: Decide on the areas you want to light and the type of lighting you need before purchasing.
  2. Start Small: If you’re new to automation, start with a single light or sensor and gradually expand.
  3. Use High-Quality Sensors: Invest in reliable sensors to ensure accurate readings.

I’m so proud of how this project turned out, and I hope it inspires others to try something similar! :star2:
