Smart Home Arrival Automation with Presence Detection and Voice Greeting

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on a fun smart home project lately and wanted to share my progress and challenges with you all. I’m trying to set up a seamless arrival automation that not only turns on specific lights but also triggers a voice message through my Sonos system. Here’s how it’s going so far!

The Setup
I use my iPhone’s presence detection to trigger the automation when I come home. The goal is for the driveway light, patio lights, and front hallway lights to turn on automatically, but only after sundown. I also want to add a nice touch by having my Sonos system play a custom voice message welcoming me home. Sounds simple enough, right?

The Challenges

  1. Timing the Lights Perfectly
I’ve got the lights set up to turn on when my phone detects I’m home, but I don’t want them to come on if I arrive during the day. I’ve tried using sunset and sunrise times to control this, but I’m not entirely sure how to make it foolproof. Any tips would be appreciated!

  2. Sonos Voice Message Integration
I’ve connected my Sonos system to Homey, but I’m struggling with the flow. I want the message to play only after I’ve opened the door, connected to the Wi-Fi, and there’s motion in the room. It feels like I’m close, but the flow isn’t quite there yet. Has anyone tackled something similar?

  3. Precision with Smart Presence
I’m using the Smart Presence app to refine the geolocation trigger, but it’s still a bit hit or miss. I’d love to find a way to delay the automation until I’m definitely inside and connected to my home network.

What I’ve Tried

  • I’ve set up the door sensor as the main trigger.
  • I’ve added conditions for Wi-Fi connection and motion detection.
  • I’ve experimented with different flow configurations in Homey, but I’m still missing that final piece to make it all work smoothly.

Looking for Solutions
If anyone has successfully integrated a similar setup or has tips on refining geolocation triggers and flows, I’d be thrilled to hear from you! I’m especially interested in creative ways to ensure the automation doesn’t activate too early or too late.

Thanks in advance for your insights and suggestions! Let’s make this smart home project a success! :rocket:
