Smart Home Automation: GPS Tracking and Away Mode Tips

Hey everyone! I wanted to share some of my recent smart home automation projects and ask for tips on improving my setup. First, I’ve been working on a system to track when my family is heading home. I’ve set up GPS tracking using Google Maps Location Sharing, and I created a package that guesses when someone is on their way home based on the distance from our house. It’s pretty cool—it uses a distance sensor and timer to detect consecutive approaches within a set timeframe. From there, I can automate things like turning on the A/C before we arrive. I’d love to hear if anyone has suggestions to make this even more efficient!

Another thing I’ve been experimenting with is setting up different modes for the day, evening, and night. I’ve configured my system to switch between these modes based on time and the status of my presence sensors. However, I’m running into an issue where the mode doesn’t switch back to Day, Evening, or Night after being in Away mode. For example, if we leave in the morning, the mode goes to Away, but when someone returns in the afternoon, it doesn’t switch back to Home mode automatically. Does anyone know how to configure this properly? I’ve checked the mode settings, but I’m not sure where the disconnect is happening.

I’d also love to hear about anyone else’s experiences withAway mode automation and GPS tracking. Have you found any unique solutions or encountered similar issues? The community here is amazing, and I’m sure there are some experts who can shed some light on this!

Lastly, I wanted to share a fun project I’ve been working on—using GPS tracking to notify my wife when I’m on my way home. It’s a small automation, but it adds a nice personal touch to our smart home setup. I’d love to hear if anyone else has creative uses for GPS tracking or presence sensors!

Thanks in advance for any advice or tips you can share. Happy automating everyone! :rocket:
