I’ve been on a fantastic journey setting up my smart home, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and tips for anyone looking to dive into automation. 
Starting with the basics, I decided to go with Fibaro FGS-222 Dual Relay switches for my lighting setup. Pairing them with the SmartThings app has been a game-changer. Initially, I was focused on manual control via my smartphone, but the real magic happened when I started automating routines. For example, I set up my lights to turn on at sunset and off at bedtime—no more fumbling for switches in the dark! 
One of the challenges I faced was getting the automation features to work seamlessly. I tried using SmartLighting and IFTTT, but they didn’t quite meet my needs. After some trial and error, I discovered that creating custom routines within SmartThings was the key. Now, I can control both switches with a single virtual switch, simplifying things for my family. 
I also wanted to automate my lights based on sunrise and sunset times. While it took some tweaking, I finally got it working using location-based triggers. It’s amazing how the house comes alive in the morning with the lights turning on automatically.

- Use routines: They save time and create a seamless experience.
- Experiment and adjust: Automation isn’t one-size-fits-all, so don’t be afraid to tweak your setup.
One funny moment during my setup was when my cat knocked over a lamp, tripping the motion sensor and turning on all the lights at 3 AM. Now, it’s a running joke in the house!
