Smart Home Automation Success: A Journey with GE Dimmers and Google Assistant

I’ve been on a fantastic journey setting up my smart home, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and tips with the community. Starting with my GE Enbrighten dimmers, I’ve been blown away by how seamlessly they integrate into my setup. I was initially a bit puzzled about setting up the Dusk to Dawn feature for two of my dimmers, but after some trial and error, I figured it out! Here’s a quick rundown of my process:

  1. Group Setup: I added the two dimmers to a group in my smart home app. This was straightforward, and I could immediately see the group in my device list.
  2. Scheduling: I experimented with different scheduling options and finally landed on the Dusk to Dawn setting. It’s been working perfectly, adjusting the lights naturally as the day progresses.
  3. Remote Access: I was thrilled to discover that I can monitor and control these dimmers remotely, just like I used to with my old Wink app. It’s incredibly convenient!

I also wanted to touch on my experience with Google Assistant. After some initial hurdles, I managed to get my Zigbee dimmer fully integrated. The key was ensuring that all configurations were correctly set up in deCONZ. I stumbled upon a fantastic guide that walked me through the process step by step, and I can’t recommend it enough!

One thing I’ve noticed is how much smoother everything runs when devices are on the same network. I’ve had a few hiccups with battery life on some of my cameras, but that’s been resolved by ensuring they’re always plugged in when not in use.

If you’re looking to integrate multiple devices or set up complex automations, my advice is to take it one step at a time. Test each component individually before combining them. It might take a bit longer, but it ensures everything works seamlessly in the end.

I’d love to hear about your smart home setups and any tips or tricks you’ve picked up along the way! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other create the smart homes of our dreams.
