Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with integrating Blue Iris and smart sensors to create a seamless home automation setup. I’ve been using Blue Iris for my IP cameras, and I must say, it’s been a game-changer for my home security. I’m using the Blue Iris Profile Integration Smart App, which works beautifully with my setup. However, I had a specific use case in mind that I wasn’t sure was possible—until now!
Here’s what I wanted to achieve: When my mode is set to ‘Home,’ I wanted Blue Iris to start recording on a specific camera if a door sensor is triggered. For example, if the front door sensor detects an open status, I wanted the internal front door camera to start recording automatically. After some research and experimentation, I figured it out! It’s all about setting up the right triggers and automations in Blue Iris.
I also wanted to share my experience with Homey. I recently switched from SmartThings to Homey, and I’m absolutely impressed with the transition. One of the standout features for me has been the integration of IFTTT and Google Assistant. I’ve managed to create a simple yet effective automation using these tools. Here’s how it works:
- IFTTT Integration: I set up an IFTTT applet that triggers when my front door sensor is activated. This sends a notification to Google Assistant.
- Google Assistant Notification: Google Assistant then sends a push notification to my phone, letting me know the front door has been opened.
- Blue Iris Recording: Simultaneously, Blue Iris starts recording on the front door camera, giving me a live feed of what’s happening.
This setup has given me peace of mind, especially when I’m away from home. The integration between these platforms is seamless, and the notifications are timely and helpful.
I’d love to hear from others who have successfully integrated multiple smart home devices and platforms. What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!
Happy automating!
