Smart Home Automation Success Story: Integrating Energy Monitoring and Lighting Effects

I’ve been absolutely thrilled with my journey into smart home automation, and I’d love to share some of my experiences and tips with the community! :star2:

Energy Monitoring Insights
One of my favorite projects has been setting up energy monitoring using ESPhome. I’ve been logging power usage data, and it’s been incredibly helpful to track my heat pump’s energy consumption. I’ve set up a system where I use two Grafana queries to calculate the hourly energy usage by finding the max and min values. However, I ran into an interesting issue at midnight where the energy counter resets, causing a spike in the data. I’ve been experimenting with different ways to smooth out this transition, and while I haven’t found the perfect solution yet, it’s been a fascinating challenge to tackle!

Lighting Effects for Special Occasions
As Mother’s Day approaches, I’ve been exploring new lighting effects to create a special ambiance. The Govee Light Studio’s Mother’s Day themes have been a hit in my home! The pulsing “Motherhood” effect and the vibrant “Growth” theme have really added a nice touch to our celebrations. It’s amazing how lighting can completely transform a space and create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Tips for Integrating Devices
For anyone looking to integrate new devices into their smart home setup, I’d highly recommend starting with devices that have strong community support and clear documentation. I recently added a LAB3D Friends of Hue switch, and while it works perfectly with the Hue app, I ran into an issue where long presses were also triggering short press actions. After some research, I found a workaround that involved adjusting the sensitivity settings, and now it works like a charm!

Community Support
I can’t emphasize enough how invaluable this community has been. Whether it’s troubleshooting device compatibility issues or sharing tips for optimizing energy usage, the collective knowledge here is truly amazing. If anyone has questions about setting up energy monitoring, lighting effects, or device integration, please don’t hesitate to reach out—I’d be happy to help!

Happy smart home tinkering! :rocket:
