For those who might not know, Google recently announced a reunification of Nest and Google’s hardware team. This news has been a game-changer for me. I’ve always been a fan of Nest’s devices, especially their thermostats and cameras, but integrating them with Google Assistant has taken my smart home to the next level. The ability to add AI to everyday gadgets is truly exciting! 
I’ve been experimenting with extending Google Assistant on my NVIDIA Shield, thanks to the SmartThings Link. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but the potential is limitless. I’ve managed to connect my media through Plex, and it’s been a fantastic way to control my home theater setup. If anyone has tips or resources on how to further enhance this integration, I’d love to hear them! 
Another area I’ve been exploring is water consumption monitoring. Using the AI on the edge project, I’ve set up an automated system to track my water meter. It’s been a revelation—catching those sneaky leaks or forgotten taps has never been easier! 
I’ve also had my fair share of challenges. For instance, I struggled with remote access to my Vera Lite units. It was frustrating, but after some troubleshooting, I realized it was a network configuration issue. If anyone else is facing similar problems, I’d recommend checking your router settings and ensuring there are no firewall restrictions blocking the connection. 
One thing I’ve learned is that smart home automation is all about experimentation and patience. Whether it’s setting up stage lights for my live performances or automating my New Year’s celebrations, there’s always something new to discover.
