Smart Home Automation Success Story: Kids Chore System

I wanted to share my success story with setting up a smart home automation system for my kids’ chores. After seeing some great ideas on this forum, I decided to create a system that would motivate my kids to complete their daily tasks without constant reminders from me.

Here’s how it works: I set up a list of chores for each child using Input Booleans in Home Assistant. Each chore is tied to specific times of day and days of the week. For example, my oldest has to take out the trash on Tuesdays and Fridays, while my youngest has to feed our dog every morning.

I also integrated this system with our Ubiquiti UniFi network to control internet access. If their chores aren’t completed by a certain time, their internet gets turned off until everything is done. This has been a game-changer! My kids now complete their chores on time without any arguments.

To make it even more seamless, I cast the chore list to our Lenovo Google Display in the kitchen. It shows the chores that need to be done and disappears once everything is finished. I even added some extra information like the time, date, and weather to make it more useful.

This project was a fun way to combine my love for automation with solving a real-life problem. It’s been running smoothly for months now, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I hope this inspires others to try something similar! :tada:
