Hey everyone, I wanted to share a success story about my recent smart home project. I’ve been working on automating my living room lights using a motion sensor and a light automation setup. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but the results have been fantastic!
Here’s the setup: I have a motion sensor paired with a light in my living room. The goal was to have the light turn on whenever motion is detected, especially when the room is dark (lux-level below 40). This has been working perfectly and has added a nice touch of convenience to my daily life.
However, I wanted to take it a step further. Sometimes, I prefer to manually turn the light off to create a cozy atmosphere, like when I’m enjoying candlelight. But the automation kept turning the light back on when I moved around. To solve this, I added a condition to the automation: if the light has been manually turned off and there’s been motion detected in the last 5 minutes, the automation won’t trigger. This way, if everyone leaves the room for 5 minutes, the automation will still work when someone returns. It’s a small tweak, but it makes a big difference!
I’d love to hear if anyone else has tackled similar automation challenges or has tips for improving setups like this. It’s amazing how smart home technology can adapt to our daily routines and preferences. Happy automating! ![]()
