Smart Home Integration Success Story: Overcoming Challenges with Zooz and Homematic

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience integrating a few smart home devices, hoping it might help someone else who’s going through a similar journey.

A few weeks ago, I decided to upgrade my home theater setup by integrating my projector screen with Homematic. I’ve been using a small 2-button remote control from Intertechno, which allows me to raise, lower, and stop the screen. However, I wanted a more seamless and automated solution. After some research, I found that the screen uses a standard Marantec motor, which is great news because it means compatibility with a variety of smart home systems.

I reached out to the community for advice on the best components to use for this integration. Someone suggested using a Homematic switch module, which would allow me to control the screen directly from my smartphone or through the Homematic app. This seemed like the perfect solution, so I ordered the necessary components.

The installation process went smoothly, and I was excited to test it out. However, I ran into an unexpected issue with one of my Zooz ZEN 20 power strips. After setting it up, I noticed that all the circuits except for the USB ports were dead. The buttons on the device weren’t responding, and even after trying a factory reset and force-removal, the problem persisted. I was a bit worried because this power strip was crucial for powering some of my home theater equipment.

Thankfully, I found some helpful advice in the forums. Someone suggested checking the Z-Wave network health and performing a network repair. After doing that, the power strip started working again, though it was a bit unstable. I decided to temporarily switch to an old-school power strip until I can get a replacement.

Back to my projector screen integration, I’m happy to report that it’s working beautifully! I’ve set up scenes where the screen automatically lowers when I press a button on my Homematic control panel. It’s such a neat addition to my home theater setup, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

This experience taught me the importance of having a backup plan and the value of community support. If anyone else is working on a similar project or facing issues with their Zooz devices, feel free to reach out—I’d be happy to share what I’ve learned.

Happy integrating everyone! :rocket:
