Smart Home Journey: Integrating Devices and Discovering Tricks

Hello everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home technology, and it’s been an incredible journey filled with learning and discovery. I wanted to share some of my experiences, questions, and tips in case they resonate with others or spark some ideas!

One thing I’ve been curious about is integrating different devices seamlessly. For example, I recently set up a Shelly 2.5 switch with a standard flip switch. The challenge I faced was ensuring the switch position matches the automation state. If the automation turns the lights on, the switch should reflect that physically. I’m still exploring the best way to achieve this, but it’s been a fun puzzle to solve!

On the topic of integrations, I’ve been using SmartThings alongside Alexa for our new home build. It’s amazing how many devices and features are available, from lights and thermostats to cameras and speakers. However, I’ve noticed that sometimes devices can lose connection, especially after firmware updates. If anyone has tips on maintaining stable connections, I’d love to hear them!

Another area I’ve been exploring is custom scripts. I came across a Lua script that uses Find My iPhone to detect when I’m home and trigger scenes accordingly. It’s a simple yet effective way to make the home feel more intuitive. If anyone has similar projects or improvements to share, I’d be happy to collaborate! :bulb:

Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with WPS mode for setting up cameras. It’s such a convenient way to connect devices without manually entering passwords. If anyone has tips on troubleshooting WPS connections or alternative methods, I’d appreciate the insights! :hammer_and_wrench:

Overall, the smart home ecosystem is vast and ever-evolving. I’m excited to continue learning and sharing my experiences with the community. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your thoughts and suggestions!
