Hey everyone, I’m really excited to share an update on my smart home project!
I’ve been working on transforming my basement spare bedroom into a tech-savvy studio, and it’s coming along great. I’ve installed a few smart cameras for security and monitoring, but I ran into an interesting issue with one of them. Let me walk you through it and share some tips I’ve picked up along the way.
First off, I’ve been using the Schlage camera with the NorthQ firmware, and it’s been working perfectly with Vera Mobile. However, after a recent Windows update, I noticed that the camera wouldn’t connect through the IP address and port URL in Internet Explorer. It was a bit frustrating, but I managed to fix it using system restore on one PC. If anyone else is experiencing this, I’d love to hear if you’ve found a solution or workaround!
On the topic of cameras, I’ve been using Blink cameras for outdoor security, and they’ve been reliable so far. However, I tried adding a fifth camera and ran into sync issues. The Blink app wasn’t recognizing the new camera, and I had to go through all the troubleshooting steps. If anyone has tips on adding multiple cameras smoothly, I’m all ears! ![]()
Another thing I wanted to share is a teardown of the Shelly 3EM-63W Gen3. It’s fascinating to see how these devices work internally. The energy metering and power management components are pretty advanced, and the design is really optimized for functionality. If you’re into DIY projects or understanding your smart devices better, I recommend checking out some teardown videos or forums for insights!
Back to my project, I’m really looking forward to integrating some smart lighting and maybe even a home theater system. I’ve heard great things about the Govee M1 Matter Light Strip, and I’m considering adding it to my setup. The compatibility with Matter and multiple platforms like HomeKit and Alexa is a huge plus!
If anyone has tips on setting up a home theater system or recommendations for smart lighting, I’d love to hear them. Also, if you’re working on any exciting smart home projects, feel free to share! It’s always inspiring to see what others are doing.
Stay tuned for more updates on my basement transformation, and happy smart home hacking! ![]()
