Smart Home Setup: My Journey with GE Switches and Wyze Lights

I recently embarked on a smart home project, and I thought I’d share my journey with you all. It’s been a mix of excitement, a few bumps, and a lot of learning. Let’s dive in!### Starting with GE Z-Wave SwitchesI decided to go with the GE Enbrighten Z-Wave switches after hearing so many great things about them. Installation was straightforward—just popped them into my existing switches. The setup process was smooth, and they integrated seamlessly into my Home Assistant ecosystem. What surprised me was the lack of detailed information in the app. I expected more data points, like manufacturer info or status updates, but it seems the essential functionality is there. The switch works perfectly, and I’ve even added it to a few automations. It’s reliable, which is what I care most about!### Transitioning to Wyze LightsNext up were the Wyze lights. I was excited to try them out, but the installation wasn’t as smooth as I hoped. The faceplate kept falling off, which was frustrating. After some research, I realized it was a compatibility issue with the existing switch plate. I ended up using an old cover as a temporary fix, but I’m still looking for a more permanent solution.### Automating with Node-REDOne of the highlights of this project has been setting up automation using Node-RED. I wanted to sync my RGB bulbs with the Spotify music I’m playing. Thanks to some great tutorials, I managed to get it working! The setup involves using the ColorThief library to extract dominant colors from album artwork and adjust the bulb’s hue accordingly. It’s a fun way to enhance my music experience.### Challenges and SolutionsThe journey hasn’t been without its challenges. For instance, I struggled with getting consistent data from my Zigbee devices. After some digging, I realized it was a subscription handling issue in Home Assistant. Manually configuring each device was time-consuming, but it worked. I’m now looking into more efficient ways to manage this in the future.### Final ThoughtsOverall, my smart home setup has been a rewarding experience. Each device, from the GE switches to the Wyze lights, has its quirks, but they all contribute to a cohesive system. I’ve learned the importance of thorough research and patience when troubleshooting. If you’re considering a similar project, my advice is to start small, document everything, and don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for help. Happy automating! :rocket:
