Smart Home Success: Integrating Cameras and Doorbell with Custom Timers

Hello fellow smart home enthusiasts! :tada: I wanted to share a recent success story and some tips that might help others on their smart home journey. :rocket:

A few weeks ago, I decided to enhance my home security by integrating my existing outdoor cameras with a new doorbell. I was curious about how to group them effectively and set custom timers for each group. After some research and experimentation, I managed to create two separate groups—one for the cameras and another for the doorbell—each with its own timer settings. This setup allows me to monitor activity during specific times without overlap, which has been incredibly useful! :pushpin:

In addition to this, I’ve been working on automating my lighting system using Node-RED. I wanted to ensure that lights turn on based on motion sensors but also account for the direction of movement. After some trial and error, I created a flow that adjusts the lighting intensity depending on whether someone is moving up or down the stairs. It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference in terms of comfort and energy efficiency. :bulb:

One thing I’d like to mention is the importance of regular backups. Earlier this year, I faced a situation where my configuration files were accidentally altered, and without a backup, restoring everything would have been a nightmare. Thankfully, I had a daily backup in place, which made the recovery process smooth and stress-free. :hammer_and_wrench:

If anyone has tips or tricks for optimizing smart home setups, I’d love to hear them! Let’s continue to support and inspire each other in creating smarter, more efficient homes. :star2:
