I wanted to share a fun project I’ve been working on with my Keen Smart Vents. I’ve been really impressed with how versatile these vents are, and I wanted to push them a bit further than just temperature-based control. **Here’s what I came up with!**A few months ago, I noticed that my HVAC system wasn’t operating as efficiently as I’d like, especially during the early morning and late evening hours. I wanted a way to automate the vents to open fully at specific times, overriding the temperature settings. After some research, I discovered that the smart app for dimmers actually works perfectly with the Keen vents. **Who knew?**Here’s how I set it up:- I used the Smart App (mobile) under Marketplace > Smart Apps > Lights & Switches > Smart Lights > New Lighting Automation.- I selected my smart vent as the device to control.- I set the automation to trigger at specific times, with 100% level meaning fully open.- I also added a caveat to never close all vents completely to avoid back pressure on the HVAC system.The results have been fantastic! My HVAC system now runs more efficiently during peak usage times, and I’ve noticed a reduction in energy consumption. It’s a simple hack, but it makes a big difference.I’d love to hear if anyone else has experimented with custom automation for their HVAC system.
