Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience with the Spruce irrigation controller and ask for some advice. I’ve been using the controller for a while now, and overall, it’s been working really well. It adjusts for rain, skips watering days based on the forecast, and I can manually trigger it through the Smart App. I’m pretty happy with it, especially since it doesn’t require yard moisture sensors.
However, I did run into a minor issue this morning that I wanted to bring up. The temperature was around 20°F outside, and despite this, the controller went ahead and watered the yard. I have a rain sensor attached, but it wasn’t showing as triggered in the Spruce app, even though its LED indicated it detected the freeze. I’m wondering if the sensor’s detection is intermittent or if the app isn’t programmed to skip watering on sub-freezing days, even without the sensor.
I’m curious if anyone else with a Spruce controller has experienced this or if the app is supposed to handle sub-freezing temperatures automatically. I’m not too concerned since freezing temperatures are rare here in Texas, but it would be nice to avoid having to disable the system entirely during the winter months. Any insights or tips would be appreciated!
