I recently embarked on setting up a smart irrigation system using an ESP-based controller to replace my Hunter X-Core irrigation controller. The goal was to integrate data from a nearby Netatmo weather station to avoid purchasing my own, saving costs while leveraging shared weather data. However, I encountered some challenges during the setup process. Initially, I configured the system to use the Netatmo sensors, hoping they would suffice for the smart irrigation calculations. Unfortunately, the system didn’t assign the sensors as expected, leaving the smart irrigation instance empty. I tried reconfiguring it but faced the same issue. After some research, I realized that enabling external weather sources like OpenWeatherMap might be necessary, even though I wanted to rely on local sensors. This experience taught me the importance of thoroughly checking integration requirements before setting up. I’d love to hear if others have successfully used local weather data for smart irrigation and how they managed it. Let’s keep the discussion flowing and help each other troubleshoot these setups!
