Hey everyone, I wanted to start a discussion about smart lighting and wall switch options, as I’ve been going through a bit of a learning curve myself. I’ve been using OpenHAB on a Raspberry Pi 3B for about a year, and while it worked decently, I always ran into reliability issues. That’s why I recently switched to Hubitat, and I have to say, it’s been a game-changer! Everything works flawlessly with my mix of Zigbee and Z-Wave devices, and I couldn’t be happier with the performance.
However, I’ve hit a bit of a snag when it comes to using cheaper WiFi-based lights alongside my Hubitat setup. I’d love to incorporate these lights for their affordability, but I’m running into some roadblocks. Most vendors insist that their lights require an internet connection for control, which feels a bit counterintuitive for a home automation setup. I’d prefer to keep things local unless I’m controlling them remotely, which I don’t plan on doing anytime soon. Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a workaround? I’d be grateful for any insights or recommendations!
Another topic I’d like to touch on is wall switches. I was looking into Broadlink TC2 switches and the RM2 Pro, but I read that HA can’t translate the state of the switch accurately. It seems like a hit-or-miss situation, which is frustrating. I understand that Z-Wave is an alternative, but it’s significantly more expensive, and I’m not finding many options for 2/3 gang switches. I’m curious to hear what other wireless-based solutions the community recommends. Are there any alternatives that offer reliability without the hefty price tag?
I’d also love to hear about anyone’s experiences with fl flickering lights when using dimmers. I’ve tried several different light bulbs with my HMIP-BDT dimmers, but they all seem to flicker. It’s been a bit of a trial-and-error process, and I’m hoping someone out there has found a solution or knows which bulbs work well with dimmers.
Lastly, I wanted to mention my recent experience with the Wyze cam. Everything went smoothly during setup, but after a firmware update, I started having issues with the WiFi connection dropping after a few seconds to a minute. It’s been a bit of a hassle, and I’m wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and managed to resolve it. My internet speed is solid (120 down, 10 up), so I don’t think that’s the issue.
This has been a whirlwind of questions and experiences, but I’m really looking forward to hearing from the community. Your insights and advice are invaluable, and I’m sure others will benefit from this discussion as well. Thanks in advance for your help and expertise!
