I recently started using a smart lighting app to automate my home’s lighting system. While the idea of scheduling lights to turn on and off automatically sounds fantastic, my experience has been less than ideal. Let me share my journey and some tips for anyone facing similar issues.
First, I set up a simple automation: turn on the lights at sunset and turn them off at sunrise. Sounds straightforward, right? Unfortunately, the app hasn’t been reliable with this basic task. Sometimes the lights stay off even after sunset, and when they do turn on manually, they refuse to shut off at sunrise. It’s frustrating to come home to a dark house or deal with lights that won’t turn off in the morning.
I also tried setting up motion-activated lights for the master bedroom. The goal was to have the lights turn on when movement is detected and turn off after three minutes of no activity, but only when the house is in ‘Home’ mode. While this worked initially, it’s become increasingly unreliable. The lights often come on during ‘Night’ mode, which is not ideal when trying to sleep. It’s especially annoying when the lights activate in the middle of the night!
After struggling with these issues, I decided to reach out to customer support. They were helpful and acknowledged the bugs, but a resolution is still pending. In the meantime, I’ve found a workaround by manually adjusting the settings each day, which isn’t ideal but gets the job done.
For anyone else dealing with similar problems, here are a few tips:
- Double-check your automation settings: Ensure that modes and time zones are correctly configured.
- Test automations individually: Sometimes, complex automations can interfere with each other.
- Keep the app updated: Software updates often include bug fixes.
- Reach out to support: Don’t hesitate to contact customer support if issues persist.
While my experience hasn’t been perfect, I’m hopeful that future updates will resolve these bugs. Smart lighting has the potential to greatly enhance our lives, and I’m excited to see how this technology evolves. If anyone has encountered similar issues or has additional tips, I’d love to hear about them!
