As the sun sets and the day winds down, I love coming home to a warm and inviting atmosphere. That’s why I decided to set up a smart lighting automation to automatically dim the lights in the evening. It’s a small touch, but it makes a big difference in how I feel when I walk through the door.
I started by pairing my IKEA Tradfri dimmer switch with my Zigbee2MQTT setup. Initially, I was a bit overwhelmed by all the configuration options, but with some research and experimentation, it all came together. The key was adjusting the brightness steps and transition times to create a smooth dimming effect. I found that setting the transition time to 0.5 seconds and the brightness step to 5 made for a gradual and pleasant change.
Now, every evening at 7 PM, the lights in my living room dim to 50% brightness, creating a cozy ambiance. If I’m still working or reading, I can manually adjust the brightness using the dimmer switch without any issues. This setup has been a game-changer for me, and I’m excited to explore more automation ideas in the future. Happy automating! ![]()
