Smart Lighting Automation for Motion Sensors

I’ve been experimenting with setting up smart lighting automation using my LIFX strips, and I wanted to share my experience and ask for advice. My goal is to have the lights automatically dim to 25% when motion is detected, but they’re consistently going to 100% instead. I’ve checked the settings multiple times, and it seems like the brightness level option isn’t responding as expected. Has anyone else encountered this issue with LIFX or similar lighting systems?

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Double-checked the automation rules in my smart home app.
  • Verified the brightness settings for the LIFX strips.
  • Tested manual adjustments to ensure the brightness control works outside of the automation.

While the automation triggers correctly, the brightness adjustment doesn’t seem to take effect. It’s frustrating because the system works perfectly otherwise, but this small hiccup is quite noticeable. I’d love to hear if anyone has a workaround or a solution for this. Maybe there’s a setting I’m missing or a different way to structure the automation rule.

On a positive note, I’ve been impressed with how responsive the LIFX strips are in general. Their color accuracy and smooth transitions make them a joy to use. It’s just this brightness issue that’s been a bit of a pain point.

If anyone has tips or tricks for fine-tuning motion sensor automation with smart lights, I’d be grateful for the advice! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other optimize our smart home setups.
