Smart Lighting Automation Success Story: Motion-Activated LED Strips

After spending several weeks researching and experimenting with smart home automation, I’m thrilled to share my success story with motion-activated LED strips in both the bathroom and hallway. This setup has completely transformed how I experience these spaces, offering both convenience and energy efficiency.

The goal was simple: have the LED strips turn on at night when motion is detected, and turn off when the main lights are switched on. To achieve this, I utilized Home Assistant’s automation feature along with motion sensors and presence detectors. Here’s how it works:

  1. Bathroom Automation: Motion detected by a presence sensor triggers the LED strips to illuminate at 60% brightness. When the main bathroom light is turned on, the LED strips automatically turn off. When the main light is turned off, the LED strips return to their previous setting.

  2. Hallway Automation: Motion detected by a hallway sensor does the same—turning on the LED strips at night. However, I encountered a minor hiccup here. While the LED strips turn off when the main light is switched on, they didn’t reactivate when the main light was turned off. After some troubleshooting, I realized the issue was with the automation logic in the hallway setup. I adjusted the scene activation parameters, and now it works seamlessly!

This project has been incredibly rewarding. Not only does it save energy by ensuring lights are only on when needed, but it also adds a touch of modern convenience to my home. I’m now inspired to explore more complex automations, such as integrating voice controls or甚至是 schedules based on sunrise and sunset times.

If you’re considering similar automations, here’s a tip: start simple, test each component thoroughly, and don’t hesitate to tweak your settings until everything works perfectly. The sense of accomplishment when your smart home setup clicks into place is truly worth the effort!

For anyone interested in replicating this setup, I’d be happy to share my YAML code or provide guidance based on my experience. Feel free to reach out with questions!
