Smart Lighting Automation Success Story: Motion Sensors and Energy Efficiency

I’ve been on a journey to make my home smarter and more efficient, and I’m thrilled to share one of my recent successes! :star2:

Like many of you, I’ve been trying to reduce energy waste in my home. My basement lights were constantly left on, which was both annoying and wasteful. I decided to tackle this issue using my new smart bulbs and a motion sensor. The idea was simple: link the motion sensor to the bulbs so they turn off automatically after a period of inactivity.

At first, I ran into a bit of trouble. When adding the motion sensor as a new device, it only wanted to connect to my camera, not the bulbs. I was a bit puzzled but determined to figure it out. After some research and reaching out to the community, I discovered that I could use IFTTT to bridge the gap! :dart:

Here’s what I did:

  1. Set up the motion sensor and smart bulbs as separate devices.
  2. Used IFTTT to create a trigger: when the motion sensor detects no movement for 10 minutes, it sends a command to turn off the basement lights.
  3. Tested it thoroughly to make sure everything worked smoothly.

The result? Perfect automation! Now, the basement lights only stay on when there’s movement, and they turn off automatically when the room is empty. It’s such a simple solution, but it makes a huge difference in energy efficiency. Plus, it’s one less thing I have to worry about remembering to turn off. :seedling:

I’d love to hear if anyone else has tackled similar issues or has tips for optimizing motion sensor automation. Let’s keep sharing and learning from each other! :bulb::sparkles:
