Smart Lighting Automation Success Story: Motion Sensors and Thermostats

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I wanted to share my journey with the community. My goal was to create a seamless lighting system that adjusts based on motion and temperature, and I’m thrilled to say I’ve cracked it!

Let me start by sharing my setup. I’ve installed several motion sensors throughout my home, including the bedroom and living areas. For the thermostat integration, I’m using a Wyze thermostat, which has been a fantastic addition to my setup. I also have a Wyze plug controlling a humidifier in my bedroom.

Initially, I faced a challenge with the Wyze thermostat. I wanted the humidifier to turn on when the heat kicks in and off when the thermostat reaches the desired temperature. While I managed to get the humidifier to turn on when heating starts, turning it off when the heat stops was a hurdle. After some research, I discovered that creating a scene in the SmartThings app was the key. By linking the thermostat’s state to the Wyze plug, I ensured the humidifier shuts off automatically when the heat stops.

Another area I explored was using contact sensors to automate mode changes. I placed a sensor on my bedroom door and set up a rule where closing the door changes the mode to Night. This has been incredibly handy, especially during late-night trips to the kitchen. The system now switches back to Home mode when the door opens, ensuring I don’t accidentally trigger the alarm.

For those dealing with delayed notifications or system responses, I recommend checking the firmware and configurations. Sometimes, a simple update or adjustment can make a world of difference. I’ve also found that using the Hubitat app for more advanced automation rules has been invaluable.

This journey has been a fantastic learning experience, and I’m excited to continue exploring the possibilities of smart home automation. If anyone has questions or needs advice, feel free to reach out—I’m happy to share what I’ve learned!

Cheers to the smart home community! :rocket:
