Hello everyone, I’m excited to share my recent project where I integrated smart lighting automation in my home using motion sensors and schedules. This setup has been a game-changer for my daily routine and energy efficiency!
I started by installing motion sensors in key areas like the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom. These sensors are connected to my smart bulbs, which are controlled through a central hub. The idea was to automate the lights based on movement, ensuring that no room is left illuminated unnecessarily.
To complement the motion sensors, I set up a scheduling system using my home automation platform. This allows me to define specific times when the lights should turn on or off, even when no motion is detected. For instance, the hallway lights come on at dusk and turn off at midnight, providing security without wasting energy.
One feature I particularly enjoy is the ability to override the schedule using a simple variable. For example, if I’m going to bed early, I can set a ‘sleeping’ variable to true, which dims the lights and adjusts the schedule to ensure a quiet night. This flexibility has been invaluable, especially with young children who might wake up during the night.
I also incorporated a gradual dimming effect for the lights. If the lights are on and no motion is detected for a set period, they begin to dim slowly. If motion is detected again within that time, the lights return to their original brightness. This subtle transition makes the space feel more dynamic and user-friendly.
The integration process was straightforward, and I used a combination of built-in features and custom scripts to achieve the desired functionality. I’m now looking to expand this system to other areas of my home, such as the living room and outdoor spaces.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this setup and any suggestions you might have for improving it further. Happy automating!
