Smart Lighting Automation with Sound Sensors

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience setting up a smart lighting automation system using sound sensors. I recently faced a situation where I needed to detect my baby’s crying at night and automatically turn on the bedroom lights. After some research and trial and error, I found a great solution that I’d like to share with you all.

First, I looked into different types of sound sensors available on the market. I settled on the Govee Sound Sensor, which turned out to be both affordable and reliable. The setup process was straightforward—just plug it in and connect it to my smart hub using the SmartThings app.

Once the sensor was connected, I used IFTTT to create a rule that triggers the bedroom lights to turn on whenever the sensor detects sound above a certain threshold. I also made sure to set the sensitivity just right so that it doesn’t activate from minor noises like a creaking floorboard.

The best part about this setup is how seamlessly it integrates with my existing smart home ecosystem. I can monitor the sensor’s status and adjust settings directly from my phone. It’s been working perfectly for a few weeks now, and I’m really happy with the results!

If anyone else is looking to implement a similar system, I’d recommend starting with a reliable sound sensor and experimenting with different sensitivity levels to find the perfect balance. Happy automating! :rocket:
