Smart Lighting Integration for Gaming: A Fun Project!

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a fun project I’ve been working on with my smart lighting setup. It’s all about syncing my curtain lights with my gaming experience. I’ve been a big fan of immersive gaming environments, and I thought it would be awesome to have my lights change in sync with the game I’m playing. :video_game::sparkles:

I’ve been using Govee lights for a while now, and they’ve been pretty reliable. I decided to take it up a notch by integrating them with my gaming setup. The idea is to have the lights mimic the action on the screen, creating a more immersive atmosphere. For example, when I’m playing a racing game, the lights could flash like neon signs, or during a cinematic cutscene, they could dim to match the mood. It’s still a work in progress, but the results so far have been pretty cool! :rocket:

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Connected my Govee lights to Home Assistant using MQTT.
  • Set up a basic automation that changes the light colors based on the game’s active state.
  • Tested it with a few games to see how it looks. The results are pretty fun, even if they’re not perfect yet.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this idea! Have any of you tried something similar? Maybe you have some tips on how to make the sync smoother or more dynamic. I’m also curious if there are any existing integrations or tools that could help with this kind of project. Drop your ideas in the comments below! :raised_hands:

Until next time, happy automating! :star2:
