Smart Lighting Setup for Hallway with Motion Activation

I’m excited to share my recent project of setting up a smart lighting system in my hallway. After doing some research, I decided to go with Philips Hue GU10 bulbs for their reliability and compatibility with my existing setup. The goal was to create a system that would automatically turn off at 10 a.m., activate motion detection in the afternoon, and dim in the evening, all while keeping both traditional wall switches functional.

Initially, I was a bit confused about how to integrate the smart bulbs with the physical switches. After some trial and error, I realized that using a smart switch like the Shelly 2PM Pro would be the perfect solution. It allowed me to maintain the functionality of both switches while adding the smart features I wanted.

One challenge I faced was ensuring that the motion sensor worked regardless of the switch state. I found that placing the sensor strategically near the entrance and configuring it through the Hue app solved the issue. Now, the lights automatically adjust based on motion, even if they were turned off manually.

Another thing I loved about this setup is how easy it was to create automations. Using the Hue app, I set up a routine where the lights dim in the evening and turn off completely after 10 p.m. It’s been a game-changer for my morning routine, as I no longer have to worry about forgetting to turn off the lights.

Overall, this project has been a great learning experience, and I’m thrilled with how everything came together. If anyone has questions or suggestions, I’d love to hear them!
