Smart Lighting Setup for Movie Nights

I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to set up my smart lighting for movie nights, and I think I’ve finally got it sorted out! :clapper: Let me share my setup and some tips in case anyone else is looking to do something similar.

First, I have a mix of Hue and Govee lights in my living room. I wanted something simple where I could press one button and have all the lights dim to a comfortable level and change to a warm, cozy color. After some trial and error, I realized the best approach was to use routines in the SmartThings app combined with some custom scenes in the Hue app.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Dimming the Lights: I created a routine in SmartThings that dims all my Hue and Govee lights to about 20% brightness. This gives just enough light to see the remote but not so much that it’s distracting.

  2. Color Adjustment: I set up a custom scene in the Hue app that changes the color temperature to a warm, golden hue. This makes the room feel more cinematic and reduces eye strain.

  3. Automation: I linked both the dimming and color change actions into one single button press using SmartThings. Now, all I have to do is press a button on my Amazon Echo and the whole setup kicks in automatically!

  4. Additional Tips: If you’re having trouble getting your lights to work together seamlessly, I recommend checking out some third-party apps or integrations. I found that using IFTTT helped bridge some gaps between different ecosystems.

Overall, this setup has made movie nights so much more enjoyable! I no longer have to fumble around with multiple apps or buttons. It all happens with the press of a single button. If anyone has questions or wants more details, feel free to ask! :cinema::sparkles:
