I’ve been really into smart lighting lately, and I wanted to share my experience setting up a system in my small bedroom. I’ve always struggled with finding the right balance between ambiance and functionality, but with the help of some great devices and a bit of trial and error, I think I’ve nailed it!
First, I started with Govee RGBIC strip lights. They’ve been a game-changer for me. The covers are so smooth and sleek, and the color transitions are flawless. I love how they can completely transform the room’s vibe with just a tap on my phone. The only thing I wish they had was more flexibility for bends and turns, but I managed to work around that with some DIY tweaks.
For control, I paired them with a Shelly 1L switch. It’s been a lifesaver. I set it up without a neutral wire, which was a bit tricky at first, but once I got the wiring right, it’s been rock solid. I’ve created some simple scenes in my automation app—like a relaxing bedtime routine that dims the lights and switches to a warm color temperature. It’s amazing how much it helps wind down after a long day.
Another thing I’ve been experimenting with is using Philips Hue motion sensors alongside my existing setup. They’re so sensitive and reliable, and I love how they can trigger the lights to turn on when I enter the room or dim when I’m not around. It’s added a whole new layer of convenience to my smart lighting system.
If I had to give any advice to someone looking to set up smart lighting in a small space, it would be to start small and experiment. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different brands if it means getting the functionality you want. And most importantly, have fun with it! There’s something so satisfying about creating the perfect ambiance with just a few taps.
What’s your go-to setup for smart lighting in small spaces? I’d love to hear your tips and tricks!
