Smart Lighting Setup in My New Garage

Moving into a new home always brings a fresh slate of opportunities to enhance my smart home setup, and the garage has been a particular area of focus for me. I’ve been experimenting with different lighting configurations and wanted to share my experiences and tips for anyone else looking to upgrade their garage lighting.

First, I started by laying down some gravel for the driveway, which not only improves the aesthetics but also makes it easier to maintain. I’ve been using my car, affectionately named “Scooby,” as a test subject to ensure the new setup is practical. Scooby sits low to the ground, so I had to make sure the lighting would accommodate that without causing any issues.

For the lighting itself, I decided to go with a combination of overhead LED strips and motion-activated spotlights. The LED strips provide ambient lighting, while the spotlights ensure safety and visibility when I’m working on projects or just entering the garage. I’ve been using Govee products for this setup, and they’ve been performing exceptionally well. The ability to control everything through my smartphone has been a game-changer.

One challenge I faced was integrating different brands of smart devices. I have a mix of Z-Wave and Zigbee devices, and ensuring they all communicate seamlessly was a bit tricky at first. I’d recommend checking compatibility beforehand and using a reliable hub to manage everything. I’ve also found that setting up routines in my smart home app has made my garage experience much more efficient.

If you’re in the process of setting up your own smart garage, I’d love to hear your tips or any challenges you’ve overcome. Let’s share ideas and make our garages as smart as possible! :fire_engine::bulb:
