The Goal:
I aimed to create a seamless lighting system that automatically adjusts based on occupancy and time of day. The idea was to enhance comfort while ensuring energy efficiency.
The Setup:
I started by installing Philips Hue bulbs throughout my home. These were chosen for their compatibility with Alexa and wide color range. Integration with Alexa:
Using Alexa routines, I programmed the lights to dim when no motion was detected for 10 minutes and brighten upon detecting movement. This was a bit tricky at first, but with some trial and error, I got it right. I also set up a nighttime routine where the lights dim to 30% at sunset and turn off completely at 11 PM.
Challenges and Solutions:
One issue I faced was the sensors occasionally triggering false positives, especially near windows where pets would pass by. To resolve this, I adjusted the sensor sensitivity and placed them slightly higher. This significantly reduced false triggers.
Another challenge was ensuring consistent connectivity. I found that placing the sensors closer to the hub helped, but I also had to update the firmware on my hub, which the community forums suggested. This made a world of difference!
